PP Hollow board research direction

Plastic corrugated board, also known as plastic hollow board, Wantong board, corrugated board, wave board, double wall board, is a plastic shaped board with the characteristics of corrugated paper.

The main raw materials for the production of corrugated board are PP (polypropylene) and PC (polycarbonate).

There are two methods for forming plastic corrugated board [3]. One is to simultaneously extrude the core material and the flat plate on a single extruder, and divide the melt into three layers in the flow path of the machine head, and form the flat plate in the upper and lower layers. The core layer of the layer-formed plastic corrugated board is shaped to maintain the shape of the core layer and the surface layer, and air-cooled and chilled rolls are used instead of the three-roll calender. The other is to first extrude the sheet and reshape the plastic corrugated board. The core and top layers are extruded using different extruders and then attached to the composite.

        Plastic corrugated board has been widely used in production and life, but its theoretical research is still very weak. This paper introduces the application and research progress of plastic corrugated board, and provides information for further research of plastic corrugated board.

1 Advantages of plastic corrugated board

    Plastic corrugated board can be used as a substitute for cardboard, wood, aluminum, glass and other plates in many fields. Due to the plastic material of plastic corrugated board, it has many advantages compared with cardboard, wood, aluminum and glass. Plastic corrugated board has many unique advantages compared to plastic solid sheets of the same material, specifically:

    1) Good mechanical properties. The special structure of the plastic corrugated board makes it have excellent mechanical properties such as good toughness, impact resistance, high compressive strength, cushioning shockproof, high hardness and good bending. These mechanical properties are not achieved by corrugated paper and honeycomb paperboard. .

    2) Lightweight materials. The plastic corrugated board has excellent mechanical properties, so to achieve the same effect, the plastic corrugated board has less consumables, low cost and light weight.

    3) Insulation / sound insulation. Due to the hollow structure of the plastic corrugated board, the heat transfer and sound transmission effect is significantly lower than that of the solid plastic board, and the sound insulation/sound insulation function is good.

    4) Reduce processing time. The wall thickness is too large to extend the molding time [4]. According to calculation, the wall thickness is increased by 1 time and the cooling time is increased by 4 times. The method of increasing the mechanical strength of the plastic corrugated board from the increased wall thickness to the thin wall combination improves the processing efficiency.

    5) Anti-static or conductive. Plastic corrugated board can be made anti-static or conductive by modification, mixing, surface spraying, etc. [5].

    6) It has stable chemical properties, can be waterproof, moisture-proof, anti-insect, anti-corrosion, and has obvious advantages compared with corrugated paper, honeycomb paper and wood board.

    7) The surface is smooth and beautiful, and the color is complete.

    8) The manufacturing process is less polluting and can be reused. Although it is difficult to degrade, from the raw materials to the whole process of manufacturing to use, the comprehensive environmental protection effect clearly has an advantage.
